I went to a movie on Thanksgiving day. During one the of the previews there was this line, "when you have no possessions, the only thing that matters to you is your faith."
I think that this is very true. We get caught up in our cars, clothes, homes, and stuff. They can easily become idols that interfere with our faith. Everything that we own, owns a piece of us.
In Nicaragua, there is a faith in the hearts of the people that is pure and clear. It is all they have to hold on to. They have no worldly items in which to put their trust, and so their trust falls to where all trust should fall..... to our Father.
How can we move our faith away from objects, to the Almighty God? Here are some ideas.
1. Recognize that you don't need more. Stop collecting more stuff. No more garage sales shopping.
2. Wear the same old clothes. No need to buy new simply because you are tired of the old.
3. Be satisfied with that TV, even if it isn't the latest version. Same thought with your phone. We don't need the new iPhone.
4. Start giving things away. Find someone that needs what you have more than you do, and give them some of your stuff.
Free yourself from the power of things by distancing yourself from them. When we begin to do this, we begin to find the life that truly is life.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
