capacity for pain

I believe that we only have a certain capacity for pain.  We hurt, we struggle, we suffer, but only to a point.  I think that at some point, the melotonin or the serotonin or the tonin tonin takes over and we release ourselves from the pain and find a smile.

So the problems did not go away, the pain did not go away, but you can only cry for so long, then there must be a smile.  That is why children still played during the war.  That is why friends still got together for parties during the war.  That is why in the midst of winter, the bird still sings.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Harold and Maude.  At the end of the movie, Harold has absorbed a terrible loss.  He must decide if he is taking his own life or if he is going to live his life.  Although his hopes are dashed, from somewhere deep within him, a song emerges.

We hurt, yes.  But life goes on and we must smile, love and cherish every moment.

Here is a video link from the end of the movie of Harold deciding that he wants to live and that life deserves a song.  It doesn't do the movie or the ending justice, but you get the idea.... The problems may remain, but a song can still rise to the surface.  We just have to choose to let it out.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
