to break the will

In my family, my mother was my primary abuser. She felt it was her job to break the will of the child. She worked hard at her task. We were to tow the line and if we ever embarrassed her, there would be hell to pay. She wanted us to be acceptable in society and acceptable to God. And so we were shamed, guilted, beaten and ignored - repeat.

It has been said that you can learn something from everyone. From some people you learn the right way to do things. From other people you learn the wrong things to do.

I am so glad that we did not raise our children the way that my mother raised us.

May every pain of the past be a launching pad for love, today and in the future. May we who were hurt as children rise up and proclaim to our families and the world that God loves us just the way we are.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
