security

Well, several have asked why there is a policeman in our lobby on Sunday mornings. There have been no problems or threats, but I simply refer you to the following news story.

We have talked about increasing security at church for a year or so. This incident was too close to home. This pastor who was killed, Rev. Fred Winters, grew up in Raytown and several people in our congregation knew him, including Pastor Clay.

Over the years a number of steps have been taken to insure that your church is a safe place. There is a secure perimeter around the daycare that is accessed only with a key fob during the week. The office complex is also a secure perimeter to keep employees safe. A few years ago we implemented a "safe sanctuary" program which requires two adults with children at all times.

The presence of an officer on Sunday morning, and other steps that are under way are simply efforts to ensure that your church is a safe place for all who come to worship. The world is a different place than the one that I grew up in. I am sure that given the current circumstances, everyone understands the need to act in a proactive manner to insure the safety of our church family.

I hope that answers any questions that you may have. If not, please feel free to call me or send an email.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
