This coming Sunday I am going to be talking about why I love Woods Chapel UMC. If you would be willing to share some reasons as to why you love Woods Chapel I would be grateful. It's the home full of love that I needed when I lost the love of my life.
I love Woods Chapel because of you, the congregation. Our leaders have laid out an inclusive vision to meet our mission of connecting people to Jesus Christ. There is a place for everyone to serve (or be served). We are a church made up of loving, humbled, grace-filled people.
I think Jeff tends to downplay his role in how this church has evolved & the spiritual growth of it's members, but I think his approach to being a Christian is at the core of who we are as a church. With that being said, I think that Jeff's journey as a Christian has also been influenced by the people of Woods Chapel. It's 2 way street but I think we can agree that Woods Chapel would not be what it is, nor would it be the same without his leadership. (I'm guessing that's not going to make the sermon Sunday) (:
The Holy Spirit who is very much alive and active at WCC.
I love Woods Chapel because we are all children of God, working, learning, laughing and loving together for His glory because He loved us first.
I love Woods Chapel because of Gina & Kevin, Kris B, Megan, Clay, Lisa & Tom, Tom H, John M, Jeff M, Easton, Brian Swanson, AJ & Theresa, Jim & Pam, Jeff & Cathy, Scott (of course - who doesn't love Scott), Erin, Charlie & Shawna, Julia F, Jerry & Shelly, Chad & Carla, Terry M, Paul Q, Eric S, every Sunday school teacher that has had one of my sons in his or her class, the men who welcomed me to the softball game in 1997, the prayer team, the people who take care of our building and the grounds, those who teach adult programs, those who lead and participate in the many missions and ministries and because of every single person who lets us offer them the love of Christ.
I love WCC because I know it is my Father's house, and I feel as though I have come home when I walk through the door.
I love WCC because I get the feeling that our preacher is one of us . . . the real deal . . . not someone who is acting or performing when he preaches. It's different . . . hard to put into words sometimes . . . but you cannot help but feel it when you just sit back and listen each week in church. It's a warm place . . . not churchy.
Labor Day weekend 2009 I visited WCC after being away from a church 3 years after being REMOVED from the roll of my local church for getting a divorce.I knew I did not care about thier roll I only cared about 1 roll and that is at the gates of heaven. I had been very involved in the church for several years. I heard Chonda Pierce the comediene say that usually those peoples light is put out and never come back well, the time finally came for me to visit this church I had heard so much about. Well I have already found my NEW home church the Sunday School class with Gina Kennedy won me over before I even entered the sanctuary. Then the GET OFF THE LADDER sermon (GET GOD OUT OF THE BOX) my theory) had me hooked. The loving and welcoming people are amazing. You-Jeff speak such great words from God. I am already a new member of the hospitality team and this is my weekend to share the love to others..AND YES this little light is back on..And I am so glad to be at WCC.
I love WCUMC because for 25 years, without fail, this is the place that I can come to and immediately feel surrounded by peace, love, understanding and hope. This church is my rock and my salvation.
It would be easier to say won't I don't like, since there isn't anything. The first time I visited wcc I felt the spirit of God present. So powerful. Just great people here. When we moved here we decided we wanted to find a church that had lots of outgoing ministries, needless to say we are a giving church. There is an opportunity for everyone! People are accepted, loved as they are. We celebrate what we have in common rather than focus on nonessential disagreements. It’s the spirit of love rather than the spirit of legalism. God’s love!
Jeff preaches directly from the word, makes it so clear to understand, and yet challenges each of us regardless of spiritual standing to yet another level. He is transparent regarding his own short comings. We have other fantastic pastors as well, and who can't get excited just seeing and listing to Clay's enthusiasm?
Our music department is fantastic, and is delighted that we have different types of music. Its apparent how much Chris loves God through the worship of his music.
Why I love to be a Christian. How many people in other areas of the world can say that openly, on a blog? I love being connected to Christ. I love having someone to go to when no one else seems to listen. I love knowing what Christ did for me. He died for my sins. He loves me more than I could ever imagine. I love knowing that there is eternity and that by God's grace I will never see the end of the story; it will go on forever an ever. I love knowing that I will one day meet my true father. I love seeing his goodness every day - His creation and the beauty everywhere. Hey, this could be a sermon topic? What I love about being a Christian.
