the long line of unknowns

My friend Pat wrote...

A few weeks ago we here in KC were been pretty wrapped up in football. “Greatest game ever”, “preview of the Super Bowl”, and so on. It was hard to go to sleep Monday night, given the intensity of the game, KC Chiefs vs LA Rams.

But it won’t matter. Two Thousand years ago, the world renown gladiator Tetraites defeated his greatest rival Prudes in the Colosseum. The exploits of both are depicted on glass vessels found in present day France, England and Hungary. But it doesn’t matter either. Or does it?

Its all a matter of perspective. 2000 years from now, no one will remember Patrick Mahomes and the LA Rams game, just like no one really remembers Tetraites and Prudes. Not everything that seems significant lasts. Sometimes what appears insignificant punches above its weight.

We still remember the teachings of Christ 2000 years later, even though they really weren’t popular culture at the time.  This is because of the efforts of a long line of mostly unknown people since then.

2000 years from now, no one is likely to remember you, or me. Will they still remember the way of life taught by Christ? That depends on whether you and I join that long line of unknowns. Will you?

It's a beautiful day in God's world be sure to see the good.
