stranded family part 2

Several of you commented on my post from November 15th about the stranded family.  Someone that I have known since 2000 that I love very much is Terry M.  He sent this comment in regarding the scripture from 1 Jn 3

Here is that scripture again, just in case you forgot.

17 If anyone has material possessions 

and sees a brother or sister in need 

but has no pity on them, 

how can the love of God be in that person? 

18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech 

but with actions and in truth. 

1 Jn 3:17-18

Here is Terry's comment:

The key word in the passage you referred to is “pity”. We are called to not only recognize the struggle of others, but to be emotionally engaged. Only when we are emotionally engaged can the love of God flow freely through us and bless another. And in that moment, if we can help on the physical side, that is it our blessing.

And I ask... Are we emotionally engaged with those in need?
