After walking the earth for 60+ years(how many exactly over 60 is NOT important) I realize that I’ve gathered a very large number of people I really care about. It starts with family, and extended family, and friends from work, and friends from church, and friends from social groups, and friends from political involvement and friends from random interactions with others. And high school, and college, and graduate school, and the army, and the job I had one summer at the pool, and another where I worked on a farm; And so on.
All of them are folks that you love and want to stay up with, no to stay connected to: be engaged with. To know them, their ups and downs, their happiness and their not so happiness. Their old loves, their new ones.
And there is not enough of you. Stephen Stills, playing with a group called Buffalo Springfield, wrote a song a long time ago: “Love the one your with”. It had much different connotations at 20 than at something over 60(nice try, not giving it away) but its true. You can only truly be WITH those that you are WITH. Modern technology gives us options to stay connected with more people but you are still limited. There is just not enough of you.
Follow the guidance of Buffalo Springfield’s 1967 song. Love the one your with. And don’t worry about those you can’t be with right now. You can love them when you next see them, wherever in this world or the next that might be.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
