follow up

A week ago I posted about the importance of ministering and caring for people who disagree with us politically.  I thought there might me many responses.  I only received one.  It was from my friend Arthur who wrote some pretty thoughtful things...

From Arthur:

Two thoughts on this: First is when I started going to church a few years ago for the first time as an adult someone somewhere had said to me that lots of kingdoms and nations have risen and fallen since Jesus' time but Christianity still persists.

The second thing is I think a lot of people (including myself) have tried using politics as a replacement for religion without realizing it- their party is a part of their identity and they're trying to "evangelize" people to their team. (This goes to both sides of the aisle)

In the last couple of years I've dropped a lot of this thinking. It's not that I don't care, it's that my life here in my community with people I see face to face is way more important than what people in DC are up to. Modern political debates look to be about dehumanizing and vilifying the opposition, so I just worry about the real people I see in the here and now where I can directly do something that makes a difference.

Good advice!!!

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to be the good.
