Korean Methodist Church

In the back of the United Methodist hymnal, there are a bunch of creeds.  I always prefer just saying the
Apostles Creed #881. But there are others...

  • there is an affirmation from the United Church of Canada
  • from the Korean Methodist Church
  • a modern affirmation
  • the world Methodist Social Affirmation
  • an affirmation from Romans
  • from 1 Corinthians
  • from 1 Timothy
I have never liked using anything in church except for the Apostles Creed.  Did I already say that?

But last Sunday we said the affirmation from the Korean Methodist Church.  And guess what??? Something struck me that I have never heard before in these creeds.

The affirmation begins, "We believe in the one God, creator and sustainer of all things, Father of all nations, the source of all goodness and beauty, all truth and love..."

And a novel thought hit me... God is the creator of all things and the Father of all nations.  He created Muslim, Hindus, Buddhists, and fundamentalist Christians as well as United Methodists.  He is the Father of all nations:  China, Russia, Qutar, Saudi Arabia, and Iran as well as the United States.

He loves all of those people just as he loves us, and when they pray to God, they are praying to Him.  To the same God that United Methodist pray to.

Maybe we are not as far apart as we sometimes think.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
