As I have been thinking about the God who is beyond us, the God who is found in mystery, I remembered again the story of the salt doll. I have posted it before, but it has been a while.
It was fascinated by this strange moving mass, quite unlike anything it had seen before.
“Who are you?” said the salt doll to the sea.
The sea smilingly replied, “come in and see.”
So the doll waded in. The farther it walked into the sea the more it dissolved, until there was very little of it left. Before the last bit dissolved, the doll exclaimed in wonder, “now I know what I am!”
When we fall into the mystery of God we come to know ourselves better. We let go of the need to be right. We let go of the need to be in control. We let go of doctrine. When we fall into the mystery of God and dissolve into him, we find a comfort, a rest, a peace.
Wade in. The water is fine.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to be the good.
