Anthony DeMello taught 4 stages of prayer. As I looked at his four stages, they really sounded like three stages to me.
Stage one: I talk God listens.
Stage two: God talks, I listen.
Stage three: No one talks, no one listens. Together with God in silence.
To me, the real purpose of prayer is stage three. Just to be with God. Imagine that you are out to a restaurant with someone that you really like. You haven't seen each other for a while so you are going to catch up. They talk, you listen. You talk, they listen. Back and forth it goes until every needed subject is covered. Then you just sit at the table with your friend and enjoy their company.
We need to stop wanting so much from God and just enjoy his company.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
