what do we do for others?

Mangoes

It was time for the monsoon rains to begin and a very old man was digging holes in his garden.

“What are you doing?” his neighbor asked.

“Planting mango trees,” was the reply.

“You are an old man, Do you expect to eat mangoes from those trees?”

“No, I won’t live long enough for that. But others will. It occurred to me the other day that all my life I have enjoyed mangoes planted by other people. This is my way of showing them my gratitude.”

Jeff comments on the story... surely we can all see our own self interest in life!  I hope that we can see it.  We do so much for ourselves and for our family.  We think it honorable and charitable to do for our families, and maybe it is.  But what do we do for the stranger?  What do we do for the next person that comes along.  How can we invest in humanity in general?  When was the last time that I bought a hamburger for a stranger?

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
