It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

I'm ashamed of myself Jeff. Maybe I'm really not a very good Christian after all. Yesterday I was in line with my grand daughter to see Santa at one of the local "Breakfast with Santa" events in town. We had a long wait but there was a large crowd. Ahead of us in line was a mother with her five children. Four boys and a girl. I would guess they ranged in age from about four to ten years old. The children were all very happy and excited about seeing Santa. I started to notice the kids were all wearing clothing which was little more than rags. None of them had socks on. One had his tattered sweater on wrong side out. Several had torn shirts. Another had pants with no hem which were at least 4 inches too short. All the kids were very thin and looked like they hadn't had haircuts in months. But, my heart almost broke when I noticed one of the boys had on two left shoes that didn't match......
Once it was their turn to see Santa they gathered around him and gave him hugs. The two youngest boys sat on his lap and one buried his face in Santa's chest. The photographer asked them to pose for a picture. They were the most well behaved kids in the place. Santa talked calmly and patiently to each child and they game him more hugs and looks of love. Finally, it was time for them to leave. They each had a small candy cane the elves gave them as they left Santa and each waved good bye to him.
As a "good Christian" what did I do? Nothing!! I was busy with my grand daughter (who wanted nothing to do with Santa after the long wait).
Today I'm ashamed of myself. Have I forgotten the meaning of Christmas? I have challenged myself to donate food to the local food bank, not once in a while but EVERY week. I promise also to buy clothing for several children as our church adopts families for Christmas. This decision doesn't make me feel any better but I've got to keep reminding my self, "It isn't about ME".
This blog is the occasional ramblings of Jeff Brinkman, a semi-retired United Methodist Pastor. When Jeff cannot post, some of his buds take over. This blog may or may not inspire, may or may not be humorous, but will always be honest. This blog is Jeff's attempt to remind himself and others that God is greater than anything, and if we just look hard enough, we can see the good in life, and if we slow down and listen, we can hear the birds sing.
