retirement thoughts part 2

So here is one thing I do not miss from my working days:  the pressure.  As a pastor there is a lot of pressure.

Parishioners have expectations......

  • The sermon better be good.
  • You better come see me in the hospital.
  • You better make good decisions.
  • You better not lose that family.
  • you better get along with everyone
  • don't lose that staff person
  • don't upset that person

The Methodist bosses have expectations.....

  • You better keep the church growing.
  • You better pay your apportionments.
  • You better come to all of the meetings.

I don't think most people realize the kind of pressure that is on a pastor.  You enter this job because you have a calling, and then suddenly people and systems are piling on the pressure.  Maybe there is nothing to do about that, but I have to tell you I do not miss the pressure of keeping it all going.

God bless and guide those who are still working to make the churches great.  It is hard work.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
