That is an odd title to a blog post. The miracle of pain. We generally don't consider pain to be desirable much less a miracle. We Americans particularly do everything that we can to avoid pain. We even act like it is our God given right to be pain free and we can end up mad at God when life gets too painful.
But what if [as Laura Story suggests] our blessings come through raindrops?
Think of it. When we have no troubles, we tend to go on about our lives. We don't talk to God so much during good times because we don't feel the need. Oh, but bring on a little difficulty and here comes the prayers. As if prayers were in existence only to remove our pain.
Think of some of the most spiritual people that you know. Don't they face pain and deal with it gracefully? Don't they let pain teach them? For me, it is in times of loneliness and pain that I am closest to God. It is because of times of difficulty that I have learned some of life's lessons.
A life without pain would be much like being raised with a silver spoon in your mouth. Although I have every empathy for your pain, may we all recognize that pain plays a role in getting our attention. And when life has our complete attention, we tend to see more of the miracle of God.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
