In Pastor Tim's sermon on Sunday he mentioned the Albert Camus story about the man who is pushing a boulder up a hill.
Camus believed that life was void of meaning. He said it was like the character Sisyphus from Greek mythology who spent his life pushing a boulder up a mountain only to see it roll down again.
Pastor Tim said that this is what life is like for those who are trying to earn their standing with God. Those who are trying hard to be good enough.... it's like rolling a boulder up a high hill, when you get to the top you lean on it to rest for a moment, and the boulder rolls down the other side. No matter how hard you work at trying to be good enough, it never works.
This is not bad news. This is good news. Really good news. We cannot earn the love of God. We have it already. Stop the mental and doctrinal gymnastics of trying to be perfect. Just enjoy life. Celebrate it! Live it! God loves you. Stop pushing the boulder.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
