shaping

Someone is shaping you.  Someone is providing you input.  You may not even be aware of it, but you are being shaped.  Who do you spend time with?  Who is hanging around?  Intentionally or unintentionally people are shaping you.  Some to the good, some to the not so good.

Consequently, the choices that we make about who we spend time with are very important.  The choices that we make about the voices that we listen to are very important.  If we are not aware of the input that is coming to us, we will end up being shaped without even knowing it.  Make sure that you don't allow others to influence you towards unhelpful behavior.  Conversely, take in all of the time that you can with precious people  who are healthy.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, do everything you can to keep it that way.

Oh your posts are so good Jeff. Besides the fact that all of us need to heed this advice, You've touched on something that could change the whole thing going on with children and teens today. One of the toughest things in households today is parents who have to deal with the influence their kids have come under from not choosing their friends carefully. How many kids have grown up in good homes, maybe even Christian homes, to have to watch their teens get into drugs, drinking, sex and other things that take their lives down, because of the bad influence from the wrong kind of friends. A tough issue in our day.

And to the kid or adult side, I will never forget the advice given to our youth by a Youth Minister in their high school years. He said we should think of our minds as a library, and realize that we have a choice of what we allow to go into and remain in our minds. Like you said, the choice of what we store in our "library" tends to shape who we become. A good metaphor: Don't check it into your library. Chuck it out, if it is the wrong kind of advice.

God bless Jeff.
