pennies on the dollar |
I volunteer at the Hillcrest Thrift Store. One of the things that I find interesting is that some of the stuff that we all just used to crave, now goes for pennies on the dollar. $30 tie? 50 cents. $900 tube TV? $2. $1400 table and chairs? $40. What does that say about our values?
Our attachment with things can get us in trouble with people. Things will come and go. That wonderful new car is going to be an old piece of junk pretty soon. The most valuable things in a person's life are not the stuff that you own, but the people that you know.
Love them. Hug them. Look them in the eye and say thank you.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Your insightful posts about our values and materialism are so right on. Thanks.
Why is it that sometimes a statement in a very serious conversation, such as your post, seems to hit a funny bone, for no earthly reason.
In thinking about valuing people more than "stuff" your comment that something we value when it's wonderful and new, often goes on to become an old piece of junk.
Funny thought. We all love and adore babies so much. But when that fun new baby ages and becomes an advanced senior, we need to know that they may feel like a piece of "junk" when the aches and pains take over. (smiles)
