the goal of love

Richard Rohr recently wrote, "if your only goal is to love, then there is no such thing as failure."

Sometimes we make mistakes.  We all do.  But if you were trying to do what you thought was beneficial, if you thought you were acting in love, it may not have turned out the way that you wanted it to, but at least you began with the best of intentions.

Methodists talk about "being made perfect in love."  This is the idea that although we will still get it wrong from time to time, we choose to rise every day with the intent of loving others and reaching out to them.

I don't always get it right.  None of us do.  But there is no greater gauge, no better life program than to choose to be a person of love.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
