nothing new

Ecclesiastes reminds us, "there is nothing new under the sun."  Nothing new.  Same old stuff.  Yet we preachers are expected to bring a new spin, a new angle, a new idea in our sermons.  It's kind of funny because the story is still the same.  2,000 years and the story has not changed.

For that matter, we humans get bored with life because we want to be entertained.  We want something new.  Some new angle on life.  Well, it is the same stuff, the same old stuff, but let us be sure to remember that it is good stuff.  Life is good stuff.  We grow accustomed to it all and get bored, but don't ever forget how good it is.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Jeff, I know preparing an Easter Sermon is sometimes challenging, in that it is the same story. Your post this morning reminded me of when our children were small, and had their favorite Bible stories.

Wide eyed children will listen to a parent read them the same story night after night and not tire of it. I figured out that it's because it's partly because it's being read by their favorite story reader....their mom or dad.

This coming Sunday large numbers of people will listen to their favorite Bible story, in fact the greatest story ever told, and not care if it has some of the same truths, told in the same way you may have told them for 20 or more Easter Sunday mornings.

It's because the message is being shared by one of their favorite story tellers.

Not to worry, or feel pressured by some new angle. We love the story teller.
