It probably isn't a word. Unselfconscious. If not, then lets make it one today. The righteous are unselfconscious. True spirituality is unselfconscious. That is to say that such folks go about doing good and it becomes such a part of them that they are not even aware of it.
I was hungry and you fed me. I was in prison and you visited me.
When did we feed you? When did we visit you?
Loving kindness is such a part of the life of truly spiritual people that they are barely even aware anymore that they are doing good. They just do it.
May we all aspire to be such people.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Another good post, Jeff. Your word "unselfconcious" conjures up reminders of a younger generation today, to whom some parents and society have done a disservice by letting them think the world is about them. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, this isn't to say that all young people are self-centered.
In this morning's Star, there's an inspiring article about a school teacher who has decided to retire, at age 94, before she gets to old to enjoy doing some other things.
Down into the article a bit she describes today's students as those who have an attitude of "entitlement." This kind of "me" attitude is all around us. She describes how this plays out as "I derserve this, I deserve that."
What a rude awakening some of the kids who have been raised this way, are going to have when they step into the real world of supporting themselves in life.
I can't say for certain how all this came about, but it's kind of sad to watch.
Jeff, to once again use your word "unselfconcious," the 94 year old school teacher I wrote about epitomizes your word.
At 94 she has chosen to retire. She says she has lots of energy and wants to use her retirement years volunteering and helping others. How admirable.
