Edison

We usually think of Thomas Edison as the guy who invented the light bulb, which is true. But Edison was so much more than this.  He was a true genius.

In his life he secured over 1,000 patents for things such as the phonograph, the movie camera and a battery.  His inventions launched major industries.  Think of where we would be today with out recorded music, batteries or motion picture cameras.

Much of what he accomplished, he did with a team of his choosing, some really great minds that collaborated on the concept of invention.  He is credited with the creation of the first research laboratory- a group of people working together to accomplish a goal and to see what their minds could do together.

A few weeks ago I spent some time at the Edison house in Ft. Myers.  It is a beautiful place with lots of amazing plants and flowers.  I hope to go back when I have more time.  My friend Tim C sent me this quote of Edison.  It is just a simple reminder that most things of value in this life do not come easy, but include persistent hard work.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Love that place in Ft. Myers. Besides the museum its such a fascinating trip back in time, to stroll through the landscape and homes across the street from the museum, trying to imagine what their day to day lives were like back in that time in those homes right on the river.

Glad you got to go.
