I have trouble with this idea

My mom used to say, "no one makes you mad, you choose to be mad."  Another way of saying this comes from my favorite author, Anthony deMello.  He likes to say, "if you have a problem with someone, then you have a problem."

This concept makes my grey matter arc.  It makes me shake my head.  It challenges me.  It is a reminder that we give people too much power over us in this life.  If I'm OK, then I'm OK.  If my neighbor does not like me, if my cousin does not like me, if a friend does something that I find hurtful, I have a choice.  I can take it in and wallow in the pain, blaming them and focusing on them, or I can learn to let the painful things bounce off.

This is a really big challenge in life- to learn to let the painful things bounce off.  We all need to work on this- the art of learning to listen to the hurtful messages without allowing them to destroy our confidence.  No one makes us mad, we choose to be mad.  I would rather choose to be happy.  Let's keep working on that.

It is a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

James 1:19-20 makes an important point about Anger when he says "it does not produce the righteousness of GOD". James might have been thinking of Proverbs 14:29 which states"Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly."
