in between

Someone mentioned that they were in between the great moments of life.  Just coming off of one great experience, now they were in a lull or a rut until the next.

I disagree.

To those who are awake, this is impossible.  There are no mundane days.  Every moment is a glorious great one.  Every opportunity is enormous.  Every breath is divine.

Are you anxiously waiting for a person you love to land at the airport?  Don't waste these moments waiting for the next one.  Strike up a conversation with someone near you.  Make a new friend.  Extend kindness to the janitor.

There are no in between moments for those who understand missional living.  Life is here for you today.  You may not have tomorrow.  Take it up.  Grip the opportunity.  The amazingness of today is there, just waiting to be noticed by you.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Jeff, I applaud you for encouraging your friend and your readers to reach a little higher for the real things life should consist of.

However, I empathize with the person who said this, in that sometimes life doesn't really feel great. We live in such a hyped up world of people searching for new highs that it's easy for people to associate "feelings" with reality. I've had moments in life that didn't feel that great, but I try to get out of that mode and not linger there. There is such emphasis in our society on looking beautiful, being young, excelling in the workplace, having fun all the time, that sometimes the rewarding more simple things of life that you mention don't necessarily take you to the top of the mega roller coaster, unless your heart is really into making life about others.

It takes us all to our knees to ask God to show us what's really important in life. And the things you've alluded to are truly important.
