trying too hard

Sometimes I think we try too hard.  Hurrying, scurrying, trying to get more spiritual.  Read this, go to that seminar, force feed yourself the good stuff.

We stuff our selves full of what we think we need and our brains are just on total over load.  It's like we have pushed so much junk in there that there isn't any room for the Holy Spirit to work.

What if we relax.  What if we stop trying to know it all.  What if we empty ourselves of our worries, our guilt and our desire to be all and know all.  What if we come to the Savior with an open heart and an open mind.

Is it possible that the Holy Spirit would come rushing into the open space in our hearts?  If nothing else is working, you might give it a try.  Give up.  Stop trying to master spirituality and instead just go to the Master with an open heart.

It is a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Jeff, your posts are just the best, and so helpful to our Christian lives. I love this one today.

After one of your posts a couple of days ago, I was hit with the stark reality of what an angry, combative, and edgy society our nation is becoming. I hadn't realized this before now. The speed and volume of information on the internet literally transports us from one world of living to another, in a split second. After reading your blog, I jumped over to news headlines for the day. In stark contrast to the sensibility and compassion of your blog, I saw all these angry news headlines about the issues of our day. One group yelling at another group. You know the scenario. Although we have to keep living in a world that's increasingly hard to understand, thank you for providing a refuge of sound, compassionate, and practical thinking for the Christian life.
