Change is painful. It just is. Sometimes we don't even see the change anymore, we just feel the pain. The discomfort of our world being discomforted. You get too many changes together all at once and a person can feel really overwhelmed.
The stock market is down a bunch. Home values are down a bunch. Banks are holding on to foreclosed homes because values are so low. Some say that when they release the homes, values will go down even more. The cost of living is flat. Everyone knows someone who has lost a job. Some area food pantries are having trouble keeping food on the shelves.
And in this environment, we go to church. And there we find to our dismay, more change. A new church start. Changes to the branch. A capital funds drive. A new bulletin.
Sometimes even I want to say, "thanks Pastor for adding to my pain." So, I know how you feel and I am sorry for the things that you may find painful at our church. Everything is fine and it will all work out. More peaceful days are around the corner. God is still good, people are worth loving, and life is still good.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

The painful changes might not seem so painful if we'd CHANGE our attitudes about them.
I suppose we are all guilty of letting the worries of the world consume our thoughts at times. Maybe if we were to focus on putting food on the shelves of those food pantries our worries and concerns brought on by these changes might loose the grip they have on us. Peace, Lion's Den Man
Change is the only thing that stays the same.
I find it interesting that there is so much consternation about all the changes. Other than God's love, the only thing constant is change. These debates sort of reflect our warped priorities. Lion's Den Man is right. If THESE are OUR biggest problems, we are truly blessed indeed. Maybe we should focus on helping (and WELCOMING) those who are not quite so fortunate.
The great profit Frank Zappa once said, "Change is not only inevitable, it is neccessary".
Only an object in motion can be guided, or lead by Spirit. I prefere to be around folks not paralized by the paralisis of analisis.

To change is to evolve, for the better. C.S. Lewis warns against such resistance, "We can, if we please, shrink back: we can dig in our heels and let the new Humanity go on without us."
I find it interesting that those who have the hardest time resisting to change... Are those who have been around a while and have reaped the benefits of the changes others have made.
Sunday night at the prayer walk I heard someone say that they loved this church because we were not afraid to change.
I pray that the leaders of our church will continue to do what's right... Not just what's easy.
