My wife gets on a plane every Monday and comes home on Friday. I don't get to see her very much. Add some big weekend event that I am involved in, like Annual Conference, and I may see her a lot less. My kids are all transient now. Moving in, moving out, moving on. They don't need their parents like they used to.
All of a sudden you wake up, and there isn't anyone else in the house. It feels like the "Cats in the cradle" song, made famous by one of my favorite singers, Harry Chapin. In the song, the Dad is never around when the kids are young, then when they grow up, they move on, and he is left alone.
So, enjoy the people in your life. Hug them. Smile at them. Breathe a little joy into their day. Nothing lasts for ever, so celebrate it while it is here.
It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.

Keep heart. God isn't finished with this story yet. Take time to enjoy the freedom and quiet. Go shop for a sports stadium seat cushion, or a used high chair and baby bed to have on hand. Trust those who know. The next phase coming up in a few years, is Jeff and Cathy need "space" because they are together all the time, now that they're both retired. They spend most of their time babysitting, because the kids still aren't through having fun. Then right into the phase of spending all your time at soccer fields and baseball games all over the city and the midwest. Won't mention the next phase after these, just yet. Think of the phase you're in now, as simply the intermission.
ooops, forgot the other sage bit of wisdom, while you experience the intermission. Don't forget to stop by the bank and open a special savings account, to help fund a couple of $25,000 - $35,000 dollar weddings, and host a nice rehersal dinner at another.
Yikes. Maybe Jeff isn't feeling so lonely after all.

Funny thing . . . I was just going to comment on today's blog and say three words . . . "You get it!"
Then I scrolled down to yesterday's post to "catch up" and what is your content/subject
. . . "When we don't get it!"
Maybe you don't "get it" everyday, Jeff, but most days I think "you get it!" Thanks for continuing to inspire us. kb
