words vs love

I grew up in a church that taught us to talk to people and convert them.  Our youth group would go to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and walk up to total strangers and ask them if they were going to heaven or hell.  These words were not helpful.  We would knock on doors on "visitation night" and try to convert people or get them to come to church.  These words did not help.

We sing the song, I love to tell the story.  It's a great song, but do we really run around and talk to people all the time about Jesus?  I have met a few that do and they are really annoying.  Their words do not help.  Sure there is a time to talk to people about your faith, but you must earn the right to enter the spiritual life of another person.

Words don't always help, but love does.  When we don't know what to say, we can always show love.  If you have a loved one that does not believe... love them.  Don't hurt them with words, love them.  The effect of your love on another person is much more powerful than any words you can say.

It's a beautiful day in God's world be sure to see the good.
