First World Problems

Where did the phrase first world come from?  During the cold war, America and it's allies were referred to as the first world.  Russia and her allies were the second world.  The third world was all of those countries that were not in the first or second group.  Since most of these were very poor countries, the phrase third world has become synonymous with impoverished countries.

The hurricane is over.  Power is back on at the Brinkman house.  Most of what we worried about were first world problems.

Waaahhh.  Our power was out.  First world problem. [FWP]
We have no ice.  FWP
Gas stations are out of gas.  FWP
Stores that are open have very long lines.  FWP
Bottled Water was scarce.  FWP
The house was sticky when we were trying to sleep.  FWP
The swimming pool got dirty.  FWP

On and on it goes.  We all have so much.  We worry about things that many people in the world will never have.  We are so entitled.

May God bless us.  Not with more stuff, not with better stuff.  But may God bless us with a sense of gratitude for what we have and mostly a generous spirit to share with others.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
