There are plenty of places in the Bible where, after doing something amazing, Christ tells the beneficiary not to say anything to anyone. Of course, that’s like telling a kid not to stick beans up their nose: the minute you say it you guarantee it will happen. Maybe Jesus managed human nature that way. Otherwise his admonitions run counter to the parable that you don’t hid a lamp under a cloak, you put it high up where it can be seen.
I think Jesus had a pretty good understanding of how humans worked. Telling them not to do something almost guarantees it will happen. Look at all the “Thou Shalt Nots” in the 10 commandments. Its almost as if the minute Moses downloaded the commandments from the cloud onto his tablet , people began ignoring them.
Which brings us back to Jesus. His commandments don’t contain “don’t”. Love God. Show it by taking care of one another.
This dark skinned, poor Jewish teacher really did start a new religion based on “do” rather than “don’t”.
Think about it.
