afraid to die

A friend was telling me about his uncle who is 85 and dying of cancer.  The man is terrified of dying, and it is coming soon.

We talked about why he might be afraid.  I have a theory.

Here it goes... what kind of a God do you believe in?  What were you taught about God?  Think with me for a moment about your earthly father.  Did he come home from work and beat you with a belt?  If so, then you probably were terrified of your father coming home.  But if your father came home from work with a smile and hugged you, you probably waited at the door to meet him.

And so if you think that God is mad and wants to punish you for sins, you might be afraid to die.  But if you believe that God loves you and waits for you with open arms, then you might be more peaceful about facing death.

May we all be a bit more peaceful about an impending death.  The God that is waiting for us is filled with love and compassion.  When we get there, there will be a party for sure.

It's a beautiful day in God's world be sure to see the good.
