Can you hear the birds sing?

Can you hear the birds sing?

It has been 123 posts since this blog was birthed. Every now and then I need to refer to the title and remind everyone and myself, what this is all about.

Can you hear the birds sing? What does that mean? It means, “stop and listen. What do you hear?” It means that we live in such a hurry that we miss the good, the glory, and the joy. All around us everyday, birds are singing, children are playing, friends are laughing, and God is speaking. We often miss all of it because we do not take the time to stop and listen.

Try the exercise right now. Listen. What do you hear.

The computer hum, the hum of the air conditioner, the voices of nurses outside the door. Someone coughing in the next room. I am at the doctor’s office for a check up. Where are you?

To be too busy, to be overwhelmed, to be frustrated. To miss the laughing of children or the song of the bird. These are the gifts of society, the gifts of the world.

To stop, to listen. To hear. To be aware. To appreciate. To smile when you hear the children laughing, to hear the birds sing. These are the gifts of God.

Can you hear the birds sing?

It is a beautiful day in God’s world. Be sure to see the good.
