Hugo Chavez

Old saying:

Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

In the news: Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela has introduced laws that will allow him to remain president for life. Hmm.....

I watch with sorrow as people take power and use it to benefit themselves. Power is used by some to acquire money. Others use it to manipulate people. Powerful people sometimes will come across in threatening manner. They sometimes see themselves as invincible, better than, and above it all.

It is all very painful to watch, because this is not what God intended.

God grants people power so that they can do good in His name. Whenever I talk to someone who has been promoted or is making more money, we always talk about the opportunities to treat employees well and to do God's work with the money that is earned.

Everyone has power. You may not think you do, but there are people in the world that you have power over. As a Christian, it is really important that we model the character of Christ and use our power and influence for the good.

"25Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mt. 20:25-28

Its a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
