the morning ritual

Here it is again. Morning. Another day in paradise. Every animal in the house hears you wandering around upstairs. When you open the door and start down the hall, they are all singing.

The cats are yowling and the dog is hopping up and down in his kennel. Now here is the difference between cats and dogs. The dog will bolt out of his kennel and follow you where ever you go until you bid him good morning and scratch his head. The cats are yowling, but they aren't going to move for anyone. They are sitting in their favorite spots and they expect you to come over to them and scratch their heads.

Everybody wants their heads scratched in the morning. Fine.

People are even more complicated. Usually they won't bark, yowl or hop up and down, but almost everyone wants a little bit of attention.

When our family rolls out of bed, I speak to everyone and dish out hugs. I love saying annoying things to teenagers in the morning. "Rise and shine and give God the glory!" Ugh. I dish out hugs and kisses. At the office, I have made a habit of wandering around and saying good morning to everyone. Whether we make noise about it or not, we all need a little attention. Its sort of like, "all you need is love." Hey, that is catchy. I think I'll write a song.

Good morning. They are all waiting for you. Dogs, cats, people, maybe even your pet spider. Take the time. Scratch their backs. Speak to them. Give them a hug. It's a great way to start the day.

It's a beautiful day in God's world, be sure to see the good.
